EVDO 3G
EVDO / 3G cellular
IP cameras are easy to deploy since as they are delivered tested and
pre-configured utilizing your wireless carrier account. Cellular camera
systems generally work where cell phone coverage exists and present
no aiming, line-of-site or height concerns generally attributable to
802.11x wireless.
Some models require no lens adjustment whatsoever making them essentially
Plug-N-Play systems; simply mount the camera, point it and apply power
- that's all that's required. Since all systems are designed for rugged,
outdoor environments they are ideal for remote locations and construction
sites.
Cellular cameras
are ideal for temporary or remote locations where T1's, DSL, LAN and
other wireless connections are prohibitive. With reasonable image
size, it is possible to achieve a new image every 4 to 5 seconds using
EVDO service. These camera systems can be viewed live as well as FTP
images to a remote server for archival purposes.

- 802.11x
Wireless
Wireless 802.11x wireless camera systems can be both simple and challenging
to deploy depending upon the complexity of the overall network. The
simplest configuration is a Point-To-Point setup where a line-of-site
link between two radios can be easily established. Point-To-Multi-Point
systems require more planning.
One key benefit
of 802.11x is significantly increased bandwidth as compared to cellular.
As an example, it is very difficult to use surveillance software to
record a cellular camera at a remote location where as 802.11x offers
up to 22MBps of real bandwidth. Line-of-site distances up to 5 miles
or more are possible with the right height and directional antennas.
This makes an 802.11x outdoor surveillance solution ideal when live
video is needed for viewing or recording.
AC or DC powered systems are available and most systems can be pre-configured
and tested before shipment.
